This photo was taken at the Archie Bray woodfiring workshop back in 2006. Just before this photo was taken, Ryan was bending over showing some "plumber's crack". We were all having a good laugh at the time with Ryan completely unaware!

Back in 2006, I went to a woodfire pottery workshop at the Archie Bray in Montana. One of the other potters was from Tokyo, Japan. On an off day, while we were waiting for the kilnbs to cool, we went on a long drive through the Montana countryside. I remeber asking her what she wanted to see. I thought maybe it would be a waterfall or a mountain or something in that vein. Her reply was "sheep"! She told me that she read that the number one gross domestic product for Montana was sheep. While we didn't find any sheep we saw some pretty country and lucked into to some people fishing. She definitely enjoyed that more than seeing a stinky sheep.
Just before we broke up the workshop and starting heading in all directions for home, she gave me a gift that I have kept for over 10 years. It was a few dollars worth of Japanese Yen. She explained to me that whenever you receive some foreign currency form a friend you will travel to that country one day.
I din't have any thoughts of ever travelling out of the United States. However, there must be some truth in what Sawako said. I did in fact end up travelling to Japan with a second trip scheduled for this Fall. While I don't know if this small amount of change is "magical", it does appear to have worked for me.
